We decided to use the nice weather in the week after the spring break for a trip. We set off for the heart of the Dalmatian hinterland, at 320 meters above sea level, 30 km from Split, to the Alka city of Sinj.
Sinj is surrounded by the rugged mountain beauties of Kamesnica, Svilaja and Dinara, at the edge of the fertile Sinj field, into which life is breathed by the clear and cold Cetina river, after which this area got its name, the Cetina region, rich in culture and centuries-old tradition. That is precisely why we decided to spend this wonderful spring morning in the city of the Alka and the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, so we first headed to the Museum of the Sinj Alka.
The museum visit began with a superb 20-minute film about the history of Sinj and the Alka in a top-equipped cinema hall, which delighted teachers and students alike. With its permanent display, the museum reaches the highest museum standards, both presentational and technological, and thus stands shoulder to shoulder with other top museums in the Republic of Croatia. The historical facts were known to everyone, but the details in the film were fascinating. Walking through the other rooms of the museum, we got to know the details of this knightly game, surrounded by video walls, interactive content and impressive exhibits.
After the museum, we went to the church of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj to see in person the painting that can be counted among the more beautiful works of Christian art, and the church to which thousands of people make pilgrimages on the feast of the Assumption. We took a break, had coffee on the square in front of the church and headed to the “Mustang” ranch near Sinj. A hearty lunch, football, bocce and horse riding followed.
