The Sibenik Tourism and Hospitality School hosted this year’s Gastro competition for young hoteliers, waiters and chefs from all over Dalmatia. The competition, in which around a hundred students from 18 schools took part, was held at the Olympia hotel in Vodice.
The competition has eight disciplines divided into two types. The first five are hospitality disciplines – preparing a menu, serving a menu, preparing a cold savory or sweet exhibit, and preparing bar mixes – short cocktails whose recipes appear on menus around the world, while the second part is ‘long drink’ cocktails that the student, together with a mentor, devises specifically for the occasion. The next three disciplines are reception operations, travel agency operations and presenting a tourist destination.
Our school was represented by Zeljka Djapic, who won an impressive 5th place in the discipline of preparing a cold savory exhibit.
