On Friday, 17 January, the students of class 1.b visited the Institute of Public Health of Split-Dalmatia County.
The field trip for the subject Biology with Hygiene and Ecology included a visit to the Department for Testing Food and Items of General Use within the Health Ecology Service. We were received by the head of the department, Zlatka Knezović, dipl.ing, who explained the scope of the work to the students and presented the analyses carried out there. She emphasized the importance of the health safety of food in the production process and its distribution, as well as the importance of the health safety of consumer goods (e.g. utensils, dishes, food packaging, etc.).
The Institute of Public Health of Split-Dalmatia County carries out the implementation of the HACCP system in food business establishments in accordance with the Food Act (NN 46/07), and besides the importance of the HACCP system itself, we heard that the department also produces labels for various products, including for all food producers before their products are placed on the market.
At the end of this interesting and instructive lecture, the head of the department also showed the students the laboratories where the analyses are carried out.
