In our desire for our students to get to know different cultures and cuisines, this time we decided to set off for distant Japan.
We didn’t exactly travel to Japan :-), but rather we hosted members of the Japanese embassy who gladly responded to this presentation in their desire to introduce that wonderful country to our students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades in the chef-pastry chef and tourism-hospitality commercialist programs.
The presentation was opened by the embassy’s third secretary, Mr. Ryohei Nakajima, who in excellent Croatian presented basic information about Japan, traditional arts, pop culture and the latest technologies, with an interesting quiz at the end that especially delighted our students.
The presentation was continued, from the viewpoint of a foreigner in Japan, by Mrs. Sanja Jurkovic, who presented the personal experiences she gathered during her studies in Japan. With Mrs. Sanja, along with excellent photographs from her personal album, we went through all the places where she stayed and learned how she adapted to a different culture, mentality, language and diet.
The students were especially intrigued by the model of the levitating magnetic train that travels at a speed of 600 km/h and covers 280 km in 40 minutes, and for our chefs, Mr. Tomislav Mikuljan played an interesting little film at the end about the preparation of sushi, the most famous Japanese dish.
The presentation lasted an hour, and for that hour distant Japan felt so close to us. We thank the representatives of the Japanese embassy who took the time to introduce us to their wonderful country, which a portion of our students surely wished to see at least once in their lives.
