Our guest was Ivana Orešić, a writer and journalist who recently published the book Putopisna kuharica globalne proždrljivice (The Travel Cookbook of a Global Glutton).
For a whole week she held cooking classes with our students. The space of our school kitchen became a meeting place for various world cuisines.
To the sounds of the tarantella, we enjoyed the scents, flavors and colors of the southern Italian region of Campania.
Globalization in miniature 🙂
On a small journey around the world through The Travel Cookbook of a Global Glutton, the first-, second- and third-year students lingered in the Bay of Naples. They visited the squares of passionate Naples, and then strolled through the streets of the nearby ancient city of Pompeii.
They learned that two thousand years ago the ancient Pompeians enjoyed eating at fast-food restaurants, that they liked to mix wine with honey, that the Neapolitans invented spaghetti, and that there is no good pizza Margherita without mozzarella cheese.
In just a few hours they painted the kitchen in the colors of the Italian flag. They poured homemade tomato sauce over thin, crispy dough, sprinkled it with mozzarella and fresh basil, and drizzled it with olive oil.
Who could resist their pizza Margherita?!
For dessert they chose a fragrant apple and sour cherry crostata pie.
