Students of classes 1b, 3b and 4b, together with teachers Gabrijela Terze and Anita Perkov Kalebota, hosted the final-year students and teachers of the Antun Vrančić Gymnasium from Šibenik. As true hosts, they showed them the city of Split with the expert guidance of our teacher Gabrijela. The students were thus able to hear about the rich history of our city, and who knows, perhaps one of them will become a future student of the University of Split. Visits like this from students of other cities mean a lot to us, and you can read about the experience of playing the host role below.
“On 23 March 2019, I had planned to go to the seaside, but instead I went to show a group of Šibenik final-year students around the city of Split. I got the main role of the cavalier with flowers, and I gave those flowers to a friend of my class teacher Anita. With us was teacher Gabrijela — she is a tourist guide, so she led us around the city. Wherever we stopped, she told us a story about it. She first took us to the cellars of Diocletian’s Palace, then to the Peristyle where she talked about the sphinxes. After that she led us around the cathedral and the bell tower of St Domnius to the southern part of the palace, after which we came back to the Peristyle through the Vestibule. After that we went to the palace of the Papalić family (today the Split City Museum), which was designed by Juraj Dalmatinac (one of the builders of the Šibenik Cathedral of St James). We continued on to the Golden Gate and the statue of Gregory of Nin — of course, we made a wish by touching his toe. Along Bosanska Street we came to the Pjaca (People’s Square), then to the Fruit Square to visit Marko Marulić, and continued along the sunny Riva to the Prokurative. All in all, I think the kids from Šibenik had a nice and fun time, and maybe they even learned something. Come back to us again, and we’ll come to you too!” , Ivan Šimić, 1. b
