The students of grade 2.b, accompanied by their class teacher, visited the exhibition by Julije Knifer, “No Compromise”, at the Gallery of Fine Arts.
It is the first retrospective of the body of work of Julije Knifer (Osijek, 1924 – Paris, 2004), an artist whose unconventional approach to the medium of painting marked the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition presents a selection of key works from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, together with artworks and documentation from the collection and archive of the artist’s family.
In the art world, Julije Knifer is known for the geometric form of the meander, which he developed in the early 1960s while searching for a formal reduction of all expressive elements, and the students, without compromise, enjoyed both the artist’s early works and his famous meanders.
